The levels in Cuphead are built like in all retro-style platformers. Between bosses that you have to fight, you’ll have to perform short runs overcoming hurdles, avoiding traps and gathering coins that will allow you to buy much-needed upgrades and weapons that will maximize your chances. Aside from regular jumps and turns, you can also dash sideways to avoid an obstacle or attack and double-jump on your enemies to absorb their hits. You can shoot in all eight directions and also perform a supershot that needs to be charged first, so you can’t use it too often.

There is also a cooperative version of the game where Cuphead joins efforts with his brother. It’s a totally different experience to pass the game together – you can use various tactical tricks and joint moves, plus your partner can be revived by performing the same double-jump on him.
